Biography

Dr Chew Chieng Yeo obtained his PhD in Microbiology from the National University of Singapore (NUS), Republic of Singapore in 1998. He is a currently a Professor in Microbiology at the Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) Medical Campus in Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia. His initial doctoral and post-doctoral work at NUS was on the molecular biology of the aromatic hydrocarbon-degrading soil bacterium Pseudomonas alcaligenes. His current research interests are on the biology and biotechnological application of bacterial toxin-antitoxin systems, as well as the genomics and epidemiology of multidrug-resistant hospital pathogens. His research has resulted in several publications in top-ranked journals such as Microbiology and Molecular Biology Reviews, Molecular Microbiology, Journal of Biological Chemistry, Journal of Bacteriology and Frontiers in Microbiology. Dr Yeo is a long-time member of the American Society for Microbiology and the Microbiology Society UK. He is currently a Guest Associate Editor for the journal Frontiers in Microbiology and is a Review Editor for Frontiers in Molecular Biosciences.
