Dr. Zhang was born in Chengdu, China, and completed medical school and ophthalmic training in Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center, Guangzhou, China. Then she started research in corneal endothelial physiology in pursuing her PhD degree in Vision Science in Indiana University Bloomington. Now she works full-time at Jules Stein Eye Institute, UCLA in an academic research position with emphasis on corneal genetics. Dr. Zhang pioneered the work of investigating the pathogenesis of Congenital Hereditary Endothelial Dystrophy (CHED), and is currently principle investigator on project of continuingly deciphering the pathogenesis of CHED. In her spare time, she enjoys art, music, food and spiritual adventure.
