Biography

Prof. Galeotti is a faculty member of School of Human Health (University of Florence, Italy). She is also appointed in the Department of Neurosciences, Psychology, Drug Research and Child Health of the University of Florence. Prof. Galeotti was first trained at the University of Pisa undertaking her B.Sc. in Pharmacy, and subsequently undertaking her Specialty School in Pharmacology and her Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Toxicology at the University of Florence. Prof. Galeotti’s research work deals chiefly with the identification of neuronal and cellular dysfunctions in depression to identify innovative therapeutic targets. As an educator, Prof. Galeotti has developed numerous training programs for both University and PhD students in areas including pharmacology and pharmacotherapy of CNS disorders, pharmacognosy, Complementary and Alternative Medicine.

Research Interest

Her research primarily involves neuropharmacological studies of neuronal disorders. The focus of her research has been directed on the identification of pathobiological mechanisms underpinning mood disorders, eating disorders, migraine and pain-associated pathologies. Most recently, her specific interest has involved examining the cellular and molecular processes involved in depression-like paradigms and hippocampal neurogenesis as well as in neurodegeneration/neuroregeneration processes by using biochemical, histochemical, behavioural and genetic approaches. She is also involved in evaluating the pharmacological activity of natural remedies as alternative medicine. She is member of editorial board for a number of journals, of the Scientific Committee of the Department of Neuroscience, Psychology, Drug Research and Child Health and has published numerous papers in the areas of mood, anxiety, eating and pain disorders.
