This is a short biography of Dr. Ramapantula Sireesha. After completing her M.Sc. degree in Biotechnology from Nagarjuna University, Dr. Sireesha joined the Department of Genetics, Osmania University, India, in 2004 to pursue her doctoral studies, under my supervision, on the project entitled “Evaluation of genetic susceptibility to age-related cataracts (ARCs) with reference to gene polymorphisms and enzyme levels linked to xenobiotic metabolism and oxidative stress”. She was awarded the Doctorate degree in Genetics by Osmania University in the year 2011. Her research generated interesting results that was published in international journal, and were also presented in international and national conferences. Prior to her Ph.D., she was employed with Suven Life Sciences Pvt. Ltd (2003-2004) as a Trainee Research Assisstant and involved in Ligand Binding Studies using Scintillation Proximity Assay. During her tenure of Ph.D., she was entitled to a couple of fellowship awards: DBT Junior Research Fellow (2005-2007), APCOST Young Scientist Fellowship (2007-2008) and ICMR Senior Research Fellow (2008-2009). She was also associated with National Institute of Nutrition (NIN), Hyderabad, as a research assistant in a collaborative research work (2008-2009). Dr. Sireesha’s academic career is good and she is well trained in many modern concepts of genetics, involving experimental and analytical methods such as DNA and RNA isolations, Electrophoresis, RFLP, SSCP; UV spectroscopy, Analytical ultracentrifugation; Processing of Human Lens (homogenization) and RBCs; Estimation of protein in the soluble fraction of human lens; Estimation of Hemoglobin; Estimation of Oxidative stress enzymes in Human Lens and Erythrocytes. Preparation of primary and continuous cultures, Monolayer cultures and Suspension cultures; Preparation and culture of mammalian cells; Cryopreservation of animal cells; Cell counting and determination of cell viability using Hemocytometer; Media preparations; Inoculations; Purification of proteins and enzymes using various Chromatographic techniques. She is familiar with biostatistics (Descriptive statastics, Tests of significance, ANOVA, Logistic Regression, Risk and Odds ratio estimations, Pearssons correlation coefficient) and bioinformatics tools used in data analysis and can analyse the data generated with precision. She is well versed with the usage of softwares like SPSS, Haploview, CHAPLIN, MDR and Sigma Plot. During her tenure of Ph.D., Dr.Ramapantula Sireesha developed an understanding of methodologies inherent in conducting research. She can learn and pickup any scientific concept with ease and efficiency. She can also work for prolonged hours in the laboratory and carryout the field work with equal efficiency. Based on her academic background, skills, inclination to work hard, I feel she suits any opportunity to work with leading organisations. Above all with her manners and good conduct, she can accommodate herself in any working place.
