Amira Zaky is an associate professor of Biochemistry at Faculty of Science, Alexandria University. Dr. Zaky research line focuses mainly on investigating novel signalling pathway(s) that plays role in the initiation events and eventually leads to neurodegenerative disease progression. She studies specifically the role of oxidative stress and its associated modulation in the redox sensor protein Apurinic/Apyrimidinic Endonuclease 1/Redox Facor-1 (APE1/Ref-1), a pleiotropic protein, that acts as a pro-survival signal.Dr. Zaky has been recently elected as an African regional committee member of the governing council of the international brain research organization (IBRO) for four years.
She is also interested in investigating the role of novel alternative therapeutics like natural extracts and studying their function as either protective or therapeutic agent.
