Dr Usama A Shalaby is the head of uveitis unite ophthalmology department, Benha university hospital. He graduated from Benha school of medicine in 1987 with grade very good with honor degree. He also obtained master degree in ophthalmology in 1992 from the same school. Between his graduation and having the master degree he spent his residency in ophthalmology department Benha university hospital. In 1996 Dr. Shalaby awarded a governmental scholarship to work and to study in UK. He spent over than 5 years studying and practicing uveitis, medical retina and ocular inflammation in Aberdeen school of medicine and Aberdeen Royal infirmary. He concluded his staying in UK by obtaining FRCOpth, FRCSEd PhDophth, (Aberdeen) Now he is an expert in Uveitis, medical retina and he is a member of international ocular inflammation society “IOIS” since year 2000. Professor Shalaby's publications include a uveitis chapter in one books and over 15 articles in peer-reviewed journals. He has practiced Ophthalmology in benha university hospital for the past 27 years, during which time he has been actively training Ophthalmology residents and young ophthalmology specialists and examining candidates for Msc and PhD in ophthalmology. Dr Shalaby was a winner of award for the best research Presented under the title of ” Role of MMPs in migration of RPE Cells during PVR” from IOIS meeting held in Turky In 2000.
