Biography

Dr Sreenivas A Nair is a medical doctor with post graduate doctoral degree in Community Medicine with 20 years of experience in public health, mostly in the area of tuberculosis control. Dr Sreenivas is working since 2011 as National Professional Officer (Tuberculosis) World Health Organization in India, leading WHO’s technical assistance for TB control in India. He has led a number of WHO projects for TB care in India for introduction of new technologies, new systems and policy guidelines for TB control. This include GenXpert demonstration project, expansion of laboratory network for drug resistant TB management, intensified TB/HIV collaborative activities, innovative private sector engagement models etc. His contribution include technical support for important regulatory changes for TB care in India - banning of commercial serology for TB diagnosis, making TB a mandatory notifiable disease and including anti-TB drugs under schedule H1, thus prohibiting sale without valid prescription. His effective leadership and technical guidance were vital in the landmark developments such as ‘Standards for TB care in India’ (STCI), the case based notification system for TB cases called NIKSHAY etc. Dr Sreenivas represents WHO India in various technical committees and has a number of publications to his credit.


Research Interest

His expertize include TB epidemiology, Tuberculosis control strategies and policies, urban TB control and private sector engagement in TB control, public health interventions for better Lung health, operational and implementation research etc.
