Dr. M. Mazharul Islam is involved with teaching and research over the last 36 years. With a Masters in Statistics, and Ph.D. in Biostatistics, he has earned a wide range of proficiency in application of Statistical techniques in Socio-demographic, Epidemiologic, Health, Population and Market research. Dr. Islam supervised 3 Ph.D Students, and guided as many as 37 M.Sc. Thesis, 2 M.Phil. Thesis, and 32 under graduate projects. He served as external examiner of 6 Ph.D. students from Australia, Bangladesh, India and Oman. He has reviewed more than 100 research papers, many research proposals and reports with the request from various peer reviewed journal, research organizations and Universities. Dr. Islam wrote 11 Books Chapters, published 75 research papers and wrote 29 technical research report. He has attended and presented papers in more than 30 international and national conferences. On top of teaching in different areas of Statistics and Demography, Dr. Islam carried out a sizable number of applied research projects in the area of Population, Health, Family Planning, Survey Research, and Market Research. He worked as Consultant with different international organizations including ADB, UNFPA, USAID, EU, CIDA, UNESCO, DFID, UNICEF, WHO, WB and a host of national and international NGOs. He is serving as the member of the Editorial Board of the South Asian Journal of Population and Health, the American Journal of Innovative Research and Applied Science, and the International Journal of Community and Family Medicine.
The research interest of Dr. M. Mazharul Islam encompasses reproductive health, health system, population projection, fertility, mortality, nutrition, child survival, women status, adolescents reproductive behaviour, and statistical modeling.
