Dr. Lothstein has an M.A. from Columbia University (Philosophy) and a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Duke University. He interned at Duke Hospital and did a two year post-Doctoral Fellowship in Adolescent Psychiatry at McLean Hospital, Harvard University. He was a tenured Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Case Western Reserve University, Director of Psychology at the Institute of Living (Hartford Connecticut) and a Lecturer in Law and Psychiatry, Yale University. He is currently in private practice in West Harford, Connecticut. He serves on several boards: The Whiting Forensic Division of Connecticut Valley Hospital (a governor's appointment); the Connecticut Association for the Treatment of Sexual Offenders; the International Association of Forensic Psychotherapy, London England. He is also a Journal Editor for (1) The International Journal of Group Psychotherapy; (2) the Editorial Board Journal of Unified Psychotherapy and Clinical Science; (3) psychCRITIQUES (APA journal for reviews of books and films; (3) He has been a reviewer for the following Journals: Sex Roles; American Journal of Psychotherapy Journal of Nervous and Mental Disease Psychotherapy. Dr. Lothstein's primary areas of research interest are in Gender Identity and Sexuality; Violence and Sexual Violence; Group Therapy and Group Process. He has published 134 Papers, Book Chapters, and Reviews in professional Journals. He has also published one Book “Female to Male Transsexualism”.
