Biography

Dr. Valerio Rizzo is currently Researcher and Lecturer at Palermo University, Department of Biomedicine and Clinic Neuroscience (Bio.Ne.C.).He is mainly focusing on the Role of microtubule dynamics, Cannabinoid System and Nitric Oxide in epileptic phenomena, He is also studying the Role of Axonal transport in long term memory formation with Focus on Kinesin family Molecular Motors as well as the Electrophysiological, behavioural and neurochemical in vivo and in vitro studies on animal models of long term memory storage and formation in the mPFC-HP network. Finally, he also collaborated in investigations regarding the Electrophysiological characterization of aging neurons by using vertebrate and invertebrate animal models. Since 2004 he has been participating and collaborating in didactic activities of Master's degree and brief degree course in the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery at University of Palermo, Italy. He trained undergraduates, assistant researcher, associate researchers and visiting associate professors during their internship at The Scripps Instute of Research (Florida Campus), Dpt. Neuroscience. Currently, he is also working as 3D Specialist and Photogrammetry Expert at Realities.io, freelance Scientific Illustrator, Autodesk Certified Instructor as well as collaborator and active participant in beta-test programs for Autodesk, Inc. with whom mantains a Non Disclosure Agreement (NDA).


Research Interest

Dr. Valerio Rizzo's Fields of Research are the Electrophysiological, behavioural and neurochemical in vivo and in vitro studies on animal models of neurodegenerative diseases, namely hippocampal hyperexcitability phenomena and epilepsy.
