Dr. Bernardino Roca achieved his Medicine Bachelor Degree at University of Valencia, Spain in 1980, his Internal Medicine Specialist title at University of Valencia in 1986, his ECFMG Certificate USA in 1996, his Cambridge First Certificate of English (FCE) in 2000, and his Medicine PhD Degree at University of Barcelona in 2001. He completed his Residency in Internal Medicine at the Hospital of University of Valencia, Spain, from 1982 to 1986. He was the Doctor in charge of municipal issues at Torrent, Valencia, Spain, from 1986 to 1988. He was an Internal Medicine and Infectious Disease specialist at Hospital Verge del Lliris at Alcoi, Alicante, Spain, from 1988 to 1994. He has been an Internal Medicine and Infectious Disease specialist at Hospital General of Castellon, Spain, from 1994 to now. He carried out brief rotations in: 8 US hospitals, 3 UK hospitals, 2 Denmark medical centres and 1 Ireland hospital, from 2005 to 2016. He has been the Head of Medicine Department of Hospital General of Castellon, from 2009 to now. He is the author of more than 200 medical articles, more than 150 of them available in Medline http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/, and more than 125 of them published in journals belonging to the Journal Citation Reports (search “Roca B” and “Roca Villanueva B”). He has been the director of four doctoral theses. And he has make more than 300 presentations in congresses and meetings. He was the main responsible of the Internal Medicine Residency Program of the Hospital General of Castellon from 1994 to 2016. He was an Associate Professor of Medicine, Infectious Diseases and General Internal Medicine, at University of Valencia, Spain, from 2005 to 2011. He has been an Associate Professor of Medicine, at University Jaume I, Castellon, Spain, from 2011 to now, where he has been the main responsible of the subject “Infectious Diseases”. He was a Visiting Professor at: University College of London, UK, 2011; Queen Mary University of London, UK, 2013; Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, USA, 2015; Miller School of Medicine, University of Miami, Florida, USA, 2016; and Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Dublin, Ireland, 2016.
Dr. Roca is a member of two multihospital Spanish HIV-study groups: Red del sida (RIS) and VACH. As a member of VACH he participates in several collaborative projects of COHERE – EuroCoord, http://www.eurocoord.net/partners/founding_networks.aspx, a European research network on HIV infection. His present research projects are: Impact of different alcoholic beverages on morbidity and mortality, in HIV-infected patients and the general population. Factors associated to discrepancy between casual measurement and ambulatory monitoring of blood pressure. Impact of an educational nutrition program on long-term clinical outcome in patients admitted to hospital because of hip fracture. Markers of inflammation in respiratory disease.
