Dr. Domenico Chirchiglia is an Aggregate Professor of Neurosurgery at School of Medicine of University of Catanzaro “ Magna Graecia “, Italy from 2007. He carries out activities as medical director, at the operative unit of Neurosurgery , University Hospital of Catanzaro. Head of Neurophysiopathology Unit of Department f Neurosurgery, concerning the clinical electroencephalography and electromyography.He completed internships in Italy and abroad, particularly in Lyon, Hopital Pierre Wertheimer, Universite’ Claude Bernard, in 1999, as visiting researcher, where he dealt with direct cortical stimulation through brain mapping, in awake surgery. Also in 1999, he was a member of the Scientific Secretariat of the XLVIII National Congress of the Italian Society of Neurosurgery, held in Copanello, Catanzaro. In 2003 he received the Board of Qualification in Perugia on Stroke, at the Neurological Institute of the University of Perugia, Italy, with introductory statement to the stroke unit coordination functions. Author-co-author of over one hundred publications in national and international Journals and speaker at conferences. Member of the Italian League Against Epilepsy and Calabrian coordinator of Project Episcreen-National Observatory on Epilepsies, in 1996.
Dr. Domenico Chirchiglia's Research activity focuses on lines relating to diseases of neurosurgical interest, particularly about the functional aspect as neurostimulation, the application of diagnostic tests in the central and peripheral nervous system diseases, with the aid of pre- and intraoperative monitoring, surgical treatment of epilepsy and extrapyramidal disorders, the study of headache and cranio-facial pains.
