Biography

Dr. Silvia Buroni is a PostDoc Researcher at the University of Pavia, Italy. She completed her PhD in Genetic and Biomolecular Science in 2007. Since 2015 she is Adjunct Professor for the “Integrated Laboratory of Experimental Biology Section Microbiology” at the Department of Biology and Biotechnologies “L. Spallanzani” of the University of Pavia. Her main fields of research are tuberculosis and cystic fibrosis infections. In particular, in the last years she has focused on the discovery of new compounds and on the mechanisms of resistance of the opportunistic pathogen Burkholderia cenocepacia. She is author of 28 peer-reviewed articles and 4 book chapters.


Research Interest

Cystic fibrosis pathogens (in particular Burkholderia cenocepacia); identification of cellular targets of new drugs for Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Burkholderia cenocepacia; bacterial mechanisms of resistance to antibiotics.
