Dr. Mathias Weller studied biology at the University of Tübingen, Germany. In 1997 he obtained an MSc degree in genetics from the University of Tübingen. He worked at this time at the Max Planck Institute of Biology in Tübingen. During one year, he worked at Ludwig Maximilian University, Munich, starting his PhD work in developmental genetics. He continued his work in Cologne, Germany, and received in 2002 a PhD degree in developmental genetics from the University of Cologne. From 2002 to 2003 he worked in oncology at the Georg-Speyer Haus, Frankfurt, Germany. Between 2003 and 2005 he worked in the field of developmental genetics at the Max Planck Institute of Immunobiology, Freiburg Germany. In 2005 he started to work at Ceara State University in Fortaleza, Brazil. Since 2008 he is working at Paraiba State University in Campina Grande, Paraiba, Brazil.
His research interests are: Developmental genetics of cancer stem cells- tumour genetics- risk factors of breast cancer- risk factors of breast cancer associated differentially with molecular sub types- Epidemiology of breast cancer- Breast cancer prevention
