Dr. Nayana Gunahilaka is a Senior Lecturer attached to the Department of Parasitology, Faculty of Medicine University of Kelaniya. His research interests are infectious and vector borne diseases Molecular medical Entomology and Parasitological /Molecular biological aspects of vector borne Disease pathogens. Currently he is the Principal Investigator of the Sri Lanka National Research Council (NRC) funded investigatorís Driven research project- 2016 on Leishmaniasis. He is a Co- investigator of NRC funded dengue mega Project and WHO funded research project on the Potential use of a combined sterile insect technique (SIT) and Wolbachia based approach for the control of the dengue vectors in Sri Lanka. He has over 90 publications under his name, including full papers and presentations at the national and international symposia. He has received the NRC merit award for Scientific Publications in 2014, Presidentís award for Scientific Publication in 2015 for highly rated scientific research evaluated by peers, Postgraduate Research Merit Award for Medical, Dental and Veterinary Sciences by Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Science (SLAAS) in 2015, Cash Awards for research published in the journals indexed in Science Citation Index, Senate Honours for conducting high quality research from the University of Kelaniya there times in 2016 and SUSRED Award in 2016 by the National Science Foundation, Sri Lanka for his Ph.D research.
