Dr Paola Scavone, is a researcher of “Clemente Estable” Biological Research Institute in Montevideo, Uruguay. She has a degree in Biochemistry, a Master’s degree in Microbiology (2006) and Ph.D.’s degree in Microbiology (2012) from the Universidad de la República, Uruguay. Her research is focus on the study of bacteria that produce urinary tract infections in women and children, based in two model microorganisms (Escherichia coli and Proteus mirabilis). In recently years she had completed two postdoctoral stages one in Uruguay and another in the University of Brighton, UK, evaluating the inhibition of biofilms formation using in vitro models of catheterization. One of her research lines focus on the evaluation of intracellular bacterial communities in children with E. coli urinary tract infection, been this the first report of this structure in children.
