Dr. David Adams recently served as Staff Psychologist for the University Counseling Service at The University of Iowa College of Dentistry. Currently, Dr. Adams is a Lecturer in Psychology for the Social Sciences and Business Division at Eureka College as well as an Affiliate Instructor in the Learning in Education, Nonprofits and Counseling Department at Bradley University. Dr. Adams is also in private practice as a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in Peoria, IL. Dr. Adams earned his research doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Ball State University's APA-accredited psychology program, with an emphasis in couples and family counseling. He also completed an APPIC-accredited Pre-doctoral Internship in Psychology at the University of Iowa's University Counseling Service (UCS). David also earned his Master's in Community Counseling from Ball State University's CACREP-accredited counseling program, as well as his Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Bachelor of Arts in Theology from St. Ambrose University. Dr. Adams brought his commitment to evidence-based practice and clinical research to guide the implementation of an embedded counseling office at the University of Iowa’s College of Dentistry. This original research focused on meeting the unique psychological needs of dental students as well as encouraged future collaboration between colleges of dentistry and university counseling centers. Dr. Adams has also published research focused on the implementation of university programming to better meet the needs of students with disabilities; the psychological and physiological correlates of romantic relationship satisfaction; the impact of male gender role conflict on coping and psychological help-seeking; as well as gender conformity, self-objectification, and body image concerns for sorority and nonsorority women. Dr. Adams’ clinical work, research, and teaching has been focused on addressing the educational, psychological, and wellness-focused needs of undergraduate, graduate, and professional students.
