Dr. Binit Kumar is a Post-Doctoral Research Scientist at Tufts University School of Medicine, Boston, USA. Dr. Kumar has over ten-year experience in the field of pharmaceutical sciences and eye research including two-year clinical research experience in pharmaceutical industry. He is a renowned vision research scientist and biologist with special interest in developing gene therapies for retinal degenerative diseases. He completed his PhD in Pharmacy/Pharmacology from the University of Delhi, India. During his PhD, he identified/developed various bioflavonoids for the treatment of retinal neurovascular degeneration in diabetic rats. He has been successful in developing a natural therapy for the treatment of diabetic retinopathy which lead to the filing of a patent application for possible human clinical trials. After his PhD, he joined as a Post-Doctoral Research Scientist at Wayne State University, Detroit and worked on role of oxidative stress in the development of diabetic retinopathy. His publications include three book chapters, and over 15 research articles in peer-reviewed journals including Progress in Retinal and Eye Research, Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science (IOVS), Experimental Eye Research, Metabolism, etc. Dr. Kumar is a recipient of various international travel awards for example ARVO Travel Award-2013.
