Dr. Giuseppe Lanza received his Medical degree with honours at the University of Catania (Italy) in 2007. He specialized in neurology in 2013 and in he has now finished the PhD in “Basic and applied biomedical sciences” at the same institution. In September 2011, he further trained in neurovascular medicine at the “Stroke unit” of the “Sant’Andrea” civic hospital of La Spezia (Italy). From September 2012 to February 2013 he was visiting clinical research fellow at the Institute of Neuroscience of the Newcastle University (UK); during this period, he also trained at the Department of Clinical Neurophysiology of the “Royal Victoria Infirmary” of the same University. In 2013 he was selected for one the six scientific fellowship promoted by the European Federation of Neurological Societies (EFNS), with a project titled “Visual hallucinations in dementia with Lewy bodies: a combined TMS/EEG study.” From May 2013 to nowadays he is consultant neurologist and clinical researcher at the Department of Neurology IC of the “Oasi” Institute for research on mental retardation and brain aging (I.R.C.C.S.) of Troina (Italy), which is a collaborating center of the World Health Organization (WHO) for research and training in neuroscience. Since October 2015, he is involved in teaching activity as assistant professor of Neurology at the “Kore” University of Enna (Italy). He is ordinary member of different scientific societies, such as Italian neurological society, Italian society of hospital neurologists, neurosurgeons and neuroradiologists, Italian stroke organization, Italian academy for the study of Parkinson’s disease and movement disorders, Italian association against stroke, Italian association of sleep medicine, International restless legs syndrome study group, Italian society of neurosonology and cerebral hemodynamic, Italian association of emergency-urgency neurology. He also serves as editorial board member and invited reviewer of several international scientific journals and he is co-author of more than 60 scientific papers published in international refereed journals and conferences proceedings.
Dr. Giuseppe Lanza’s research focussed on clinical neurophysiology and transcranial magnetic stimulation, cerebrovascular diseases, cognitive impairment and dementia, neurosonology, sleep disorders, gluten-related neuropathology.
