Biography

Xavier Xifró obtained his Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Faculty of Medicine in Autonomous University of Barcelona, in 2005. He was a postdoctoral fellow in cellular and molecular basis of Huntington’s disease at the Department of Biomedicine of the Faculty of Medicine in the University of Barcelona from 2005 to 2009. He joined the University of Girona in 2010, in the Medical Science Department of the Faculty of Medicine, where he is currently an Associate Professor. He is the coordinator of Neuroscience in the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Girona and the head of the New Therapeutic Targets Research Group (TargetsLab). His main objective is to identify new therapeutic targets to treat neurodegenerative and neurological diseases.


Research Interest

Xavier Xifró's research is focused on the study of therapeutic targets in Huntington’s disease, ictus and spinal cord injury, using a variety of approaches, such as human study samples, behavioral analysis, synthesis and administration of new derivative compounds and study of physiopathological mechanisms .
