Dr. Ramesh Pothuraju currently working as a Post-Doctoral Researcher in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, NE (USA) since 2016. Before joining as a Postdoctoral researcher, he obtained his M.Sc. (2009) and Ph.D. (2015) degrees from the National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal, India. During his Ph.D. program in the discipline of Animal Biochemistry he studied the anti-obesity effects of milk fermented by probiotics (Lactobacilli) alone and in combination with herbal ingredients (Aloe vera and Gymnema sylvestre) in high fat diet induced obesity and insulin resistance in mice model. He gained extensive research experience as well as various technical expertise in the area of functional foods, obesity and diabetes and their related metabolic disorders. He has published several research and review articles in peer reviewed scientific journals. In addition, he has served as an editorial board member and scientific advisory committee member as well as reviewer for Annals of obesity and disorders, Journal of intercultural ethno-pharmacology, Journal of the science of food and agriculture, American journal of clinical nutrition, beneficial microbes, Natural product research and Indian journal of pharmacology. His long term goal is to pursue research in the area of obesity associated cancers including pancreatic/colon cancer. Currently, he is working on the role mucins in colorectal cancer and developing genetically engineered mice models for colorectal cancer.
