Andrew Chih Wei Huang received his Bachelor degree of Psychology in 1997 from Chung Yuan Christian University (Taiwan) and the Ph.D. degree in Psychology in 2003 from National Chung Cheng University (Taiwan). Currently, he is an Associate Professor of Psychology at the Department of Psychology in Fo Guang University (Taiwan). He is the director of the Laboratory of Biopsychology of Fo Guang University. He has been a member of Society for Neuroscience (USA) and a member of Taiwanese Psychological Association (Taiwan). He is a biopsychologist (behavioral neuroscientist). His training is behavioral science and investigated its neural mechanism of brain on my doctoral phase. His research mainly concerns the following topics: (a). Addictive Behavior: Drug and Internet addiction. (b). Psychiatric disorders include posttraumatic stress disorder, bipolar disorder, and Schizophrenia. (c). Central post-stroke pain.
Andrew Chih Wei Huang’s research focuses on how social context (e.g., environmental enrichment) affects behavioral symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder. Moreover, we also investigate whether the medial prefrontal cortex and amygdala involve in the PTSD symptoms, showing in the c-Fos, pERK, and BDNF expressions. The other line of study is to examine the reward comparison hypothesis related to the issue that whether abused drugs simultaneously propose rewarding and aversive effects to affect drug addiction. To examine the reward comparison hypothesis, we manipulate externally social and physical contexts or factors including environmental enrichment, footshock, and sex to elucidate how these factors affect the abused drugs’ aversive and rewarding effects and then change drugs addiction. Furthermore, the brain mechanism of the reward comparison hypothesis is to examine and verify the functions of the medial prefrontal cortex and the amygdala for the reward comparison. Moreover, our recent findings challenge the reward comparison hypothesis. The new hypothesis might be provided dependent on the further studies.
