Dr. Chiara Lauritano (MD., PhD.) is Postdoc in the Biotechnology Laboratory at Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn of Naples, Italy. She accomplished her Ph.D. in Animal Biology from Calabria University (Italy) and MD from Federico II Napoli University (Italy), and she received research and screening training as visitor from Station Biologique de Roscoff, Roscoff (France), Goteborg University, Sven Loven Centre for Marine Sciences, Kristineberg (Sweden), University of Tromso (Norway) and University Federico II of Napoli, Department of Experimental Pharmacology (Italy). She also took part to Oceanographic cruises in both European and Sub-Antartic waters. Scientifically, she has been interested in drug discovery from marine organisms (e.g. within the framework of the EU FP7 project Pharma Sea, http://www.pharma-sea.eu/) and marine organism responses to biotic and abiotic stressors (e.g. ocean acidification, nutrient starvation or enrichment, exposure to microalgal secondary metabolites). She has been interested in preparing and analysing transcriptomes of marine organisms in order to study metabolic changes induced by stressful culturing conditions and to identify enzymes/metabolic pathways involved in the synthesis of secondary metabolites with potential biotechnological interest. She has outstanding records of scientific accomplishments with multiple research grants, numerous publications in highly prestigious journals and various presentations in both national and international conferences.
