Dr. Paraskevi Polymenakou (F) is a Researcher in Environmental and Molecular Microbiology at the Institute of Marine Biology, Biotechnology and Aquaculture of the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (IMBBC-HCMR) with specialization in molecular microbial ecology and biotechnology of extreme environments including atmosphere, submarine volcanoes, hydrothermal vents, coastal and deep-sea. She has been involved as collaborator or Principal Investigator in several research projects (e.g. Seabiotech, Micro-B3, isoSoil, Hermione, Biodeep) and sampling campaigns. She is responsible of the IMBBC-HCMR Microbial Genomic Observatory (Atmospheric and marine) which is part of the Global Genomic Observatories Network and of the IMBBC-HCMR microbial strain collection. She is the Scientific Responsible of the Global Ocean Sampling Day events in the Cretan Sea, Greece (highlights: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iog34hABU1g; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRbecDSyyNM ). She was the Chief Scientist of a series of sampling campaigns at Santorini volcanic complex that were held in 2013 and 2014 (highlights: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-0nQdt69Jkc ). She is author of a number of publications in high peer-reviewed international journals including Nature Sci Rep, Environmental Health Perspectives, Nature, PNAS, Plos One, and Microbial Ecology. In the period 2009-2015, she was a member of the Board of Directors of the Hellenic Mikrobiokosmos Society which was established to promote research on microbes at the Hellenic environments.
