Biography

Dr. Nadeem Shabir is currently a scientist of vaccine biotechnology at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K), India. He was awarded with prestigious Chonbuk National University Doctoral fellowship and later received his Doctorate from College of Veterinary Medicine, Chonbuk National University, South Korea. Prior to his Doctorate, he received Master’s in Veterinary Sciences (Animal Biotechnology) and D.V.M degrees from Anand Agricultural University, India. Dr. Nadeem is recognized for development of a chimeric vaccine candidate with enhanced cross-protection against porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV), for which he was awarded the Best Research Award by Korean Society of Veterinary Sciences in 2013. He recently recieved an early career research award alongwith a grant of about $60,000 by Science and Engineering Research Board, Dept. of Science and Technology, Govt. of India to develop an Infectious bursal disease virus vaccine candidate with increased genetic stability. He is currently referee of various prestigious journals like BMC Veterinary Research, BMC Virology Journal, Viral Immunology, Veterinary World and Pathogens. He has also been a member of various scientific societies like American Society for Virology, International Pig Veterinary Society, and Korean Society of Veterinary Sciences etc.

Research Interest

His research interests include enhancing the genetic stability and cross-protection of RNA viruses affecting livestock and poultry through reverse genetics and mutagen-driven lethal mutagenesis. To gain a holistic view of host-Pathogen interaction, he studies the effect of various host genotypes on immunological measures elicited in response to RNA viruses affecting livestock and poultry to derive an association between host genotypes and disease resistance.
