Sevgi Türker-Kaya was born in Kocaeli, Turkey, in 1976. She received the B.Sc. degree in Biology from the University of Hacettepe, Ankara, Turkey, in 1998, and the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Molecular Biophysics from Middle East Technical University (METU), Ankara, Turkey, in 2002 and 2009, respectively. In 2001, she joined the Department of Biology, METU, as a Research Assistant. Since September 2009, she has been with the Department of Biology, Kocaeli University, where she was an Assistant Professor. Her current research interests include studying the effects of several disease conditions, particularly epilepsy, and drugs on tissues, biological and artificial membrane systems by biophysical techniques. She has also collaborated actively with researchers in other disciplines of plant science. She is the instructor on undergraduate and graduate topics in biology. She worked as Vice Dean for two years in Kocaeli University, and she has been serving Head of Molecular Biology Division at the same university since 2009.
