Susumu Ito graduated Tokyo Medical and Dental University in 1980. He started research as a neurophysiologist investigating brain auditory functions. From 1989 to 1990, he studied glycineas an excitatory neurotransmitter in neonatal rat hippocampal neurones at INSERM U29 in Paris as a visiting researcher. From 1993 to 2000, he worked at several Health Centres of Tokyo Metropolitan Government as a senior medical officer. Now, he is working in High-Tech Research Centre, Kokushikan University.
