Biography

Dr Wayne Crewe-Brown is a Consultant Ophthalmic surgeon with a special interest in Laser Refractive Surgery. He trained and worked in South Africa before moving to the United Kingdom 15 years ago. He has performed in excess of 50K laser eye procedures over the past 28 years, having come into Laser Refractive Surgery around the time of the early microketatomes, like the Chiron ACS (Automated Corneal Shaper) and the Hansatome. He then rapidly embraced femtosecond technology following the introduction of the Intralase, his currently preferred flapmaker. He has used most of the excimer laser platforms, including the B L Technolas 117/217, Nidek ec-5000, Alcon LadarVision 4000, Visx S4 IR and Schwind Amaris. Wavefront-guided laser ablation was adopted early, around the time of the Alcon LadarVision 4000 laser up until the current Visx iDesign, one of his preferred excimer laser platforms. Topo-guided ablations are also being watched with keen interest.
