Biography

Lajos Lakatos received his doctorate in medicine in 1966 at the University Medical School, Debrecen, Hungary. He was subsequently a postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Pediatrics of University Medical School, Debrecen (1966-1970). Dr. Lakatos defended PhD dissertation in 1979 and the rank of DSc in 1992 at the Hungarian Academy of Science. Between 1983 and 1998 he was the member of the International Perinatal Collegium, and was elected to the director of Department of Pediatrics at Kenézy Teaching Hospital. Publications: 5 books, 8 book-chapters (4 in English) 139 articles (47 in English). He was the first neonatologist in the world who used D-penicillamine in the neonatal period. Awards: Bókay medal 1997, Kulin medal 2004 & Battyány-Strattman award in 2013. He is now a retired doctor and a scientific adviser under Prof. Balla’s patronage.
