Dr Warish Ahmed is a senior research scientist in CSIRO Land and Water's Environmental Contaminant & Mitigation Technology Research Program. He has internationally recognised expertise in using microbial source tracking (MST) technology to determine the sources of faecal pollution in water resources. Heis the author of 78 journal articles, three book chapters and numerous conference papers. He is one of the editorial board members of the prestigious journal "Applied and Environmental Microbiology".
His research interests include: (i) Identifying the microbial composition of water resources using next generation sequencing (ii) Tracking the sources of faecal pollution in environmental waters using rapid molecular based methods (iii) Development and evaluation of microbial methods for the detection and quantification of pathogens in water. (iv) Quantitative microbial risk assessment. (v) Roof-harvested rainwater and recreational water quality.
