Dr. Yago Leira qualified in dentistry (DDS) at the European University of Madrid in 2013. In 2014, he has obtained his Master in Dental Sciences at the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC). He is in the last year of Postgraduate Programme in Periodontology and Implant Dentistry at the same university (2014-17). Currently, he is recipient of a fellowship from Health Research Institute of Santiago de Compostela (IDIS) in order to perform his PhD in Periodontology and Cerebrovascular diseases (2016-18). His major areas of research interest is the association between periodontal diseases with various neuroinflammatory diseases (i.e., ischemic stroke, Alzheimer´s disease, chronic migraine) and other chronic systemic conditions, experimental models linking periodontitis and atherosclerosis, and inflammatory, and endothelial dysfunction biomarkers of periodontal disease. Dr. Yago Leira has published several articles in peer-reviewed medical and dental journals. Furthermore, he has presented his work in both neurological and periodontal national congresses.
