Dr. José María Huerta is a post-Doctoral researcher at the Department of Epidemiology of the Regional Health Council of Murcia (Spain). He is member of the of the Spanish CIBER of Epidemiology and Public Health (CIBERESP), and the Biomedical Research Institute of Murcia (IMIB) 'Virgen de la Arrixaca' (Spain). He obtained his Degree in Biology from the University of Oviedo (Spain) in 2001 and a Ph.D. in Functional and Molecular Biology from the same University in 2006.
Dr. Huerta has extensive expertise in the field of Nutritional Epidemiology, joining the EPIC (European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition)-Murcia team in 2007. Over the last ten years, he has conducted several epidemiological investigations, both case-control and prospective studies, on the health effects of physical activity, obesity and cardiovascular risk factors, on cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular outcomes. His research interests are the search for dietary, genetic, biochemical, and lifestyle determinants of cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and age-related disorders.
Dr. Huerta has taken part in several other national and international research projects (PANACEA, InterAct, EPIC-CVD, MCC-Spain) and international consortia (CHANCES, NCD-RisC), and has a large scientific production (over 170 papers).
His peer-review activities include reviewing for Clinical Nutrition, PloS One, and Nutrition Research, among other scientific journals, and editing for ISRN Nutrition.
