Dr. Kayastha is a Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and Medicine at Dental health solutions Inc., San Francisco, California. Prior to that he served as the Director for Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) Residency program at the Marshfield Clinic, Wisconsin. He also worked as a Post-Doctoral Research Scientist in Biomedical Informatics at the Marshfield Clinic Research Foundation, Wisconsin. He was appointed Adjunct Clinical Faculty at Case Western Reserve and Miami Valley Hospital, Ohio.
After graduating from College of Dental Surgery from Manipal University he completed six additional years of Post-Doctoral training. He completed his Residency in Advanced Education in General Dentistry, Geriatric and Special Needs Dentistry at Nova Southeastern University, Florida. This was followed by General Practice Residency at Miami Valley Hospital and a Fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic, Ohio. This was a conduit for his additional residency in Oral Medicine at Carolinas Medical Center, North Carolina. During this period he served as a Visiting Scholar with focus on Orofacial Pain and the management of non surgical Maxillofacial disorders at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Maryland and Glasgow Dental Hospital, United Kingdom.
He holds licensure in Washington, Ohio and North Carolina. He has had scientific publications in the Journal American Medical Informatics Association, Journal American Dental Association, Journal American Clinical Medicine and Research and Journal of Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral Radiology, and Endodontology.
His research focuses on the prevention and early detection of oral diseases. He is currently involved with the U.S. National Institute of Health, Oral and Systemic Health project to establish microbiome characterization, genomic, DNA, plasma and serum to advance translational medicine and dental care. His research interest lies in oral immunopathologic diseases, salivary gland disorders and facial neuropathies.
Prior to this he was involved in the integration, design, architecture of electronic dental and medical records, incorporating clinical decision support, developing algorithms and creation of a standardized dental data structure analogous to the HMO Research Network (HMORN) Virtual Data Warehouse (VDW).
