Biography

Dr. Isam Mamoun received Ph.D. in 1996 from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Khartoum University, Sudan. Professor of Bacteriology at Fakieh Poultry Health Laboratories, KSA, as Manager of Bacteriology Laboratory guiding different diagnostic activities including identification of avian bacterial diseases, disinfectant efficacy testing and water testing. Joined the Central Veterinary Research Laboratories,Khartoum, Sudan in 1978 where successfully involved in different research projects and production of biological products (vaccines and antigens). During the period of 38 years different areas of research where intensively studied with valuable results which include production of a buffered tube agglutination test (BTAT) antigen which is capable to detect early brucellosis infection. Another achievement was the design of a Rapid Salmonella Detection Test (22 hrs) to be implemented at thefood QA Laboratories. Comparative studies where performed during the above mentioned 38 years i.e. between anti-salmonella feed premixes, susceptibility of different bacteria to anti-microbial agents. The effect of contact time versus disinfectant working dilutions of different disinfectant products where thoroughly investigated to determine the killing effect of different disinfectant groups on bacteria.

Research Interest

Quality control in food QA Laboratories with special reference to the use of reference bacteria. Another area of research interest is the evaluation of commercial rapid tests compared to conventional detection procedures as well as recent developments in the field of isolation and identification of bacteria.
