Biography

Dr. Carmen Giurgescu is an Assistant Professor in the College of Nursing at Wayne State University. Dr Giurgescu has clinical experience as a Woman's Health Care Nurse Practitioner and Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse. Her research has been focusing on health disparities in preterm birth for African American women. Dr Giurgescu has been examining the relationships among neighborhood conditions, psychological stress, systemic inflammation, and preterm birth in African American women. She has received funding from NIH and professional organizations to conduct her research.

Her area of expertise has been on high-risk pregnancy, specifically complications such as preterm labor, preeclampsia and preterm birth.
