Dr. Zhi-Qiang Xiong received his B.Sc. in bioengineering (2003) and M.Sc. in soil microbiology (2006) from Jiangxi Agriculture University, China. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in biochemical engineering (2011) at East China University of Science and Technology, China. Then he joined the key laboratory of synthetic biology, Institute of Plant Physiology and Ecology, Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences (SIBS), Chinese Academy of Sciences, China as an assistant professor (2011) and an associate professor (2013). Presently, he is an associate professor (2015) at School of Medical Instrument and Food Engineering, University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, China. He has published over 50 peer-reviewed articles in microbiology journals.
His research area is microbial natural products discovery and development by synthetic biology; Metabolic engineering and Biochemical engineering. One of his current interests focuses on the discovery of microbial natural products and theirs biosynthetic gene clusters e.g. exopolysaccharide biosynthesis in probiotics.
