Dr. Gamal El Afandi got his Bachelor Degree of Sciences from Menoufia University at Egypt where hemajored in Physics. He got two higher graduate Diplomas from Cairo University in meteorology and naturalresources in addition to professional training in meteorology; ClassI,MeteorologicalPersonnel.Dr. El Afandi got his Master Degree of Sciences (M.Sc.)in meteorology from Cairo University, Cairo Egypt. In addition, He received hisPh.D.jointly between Cairo University in Egypt and the University of Gottingen in Germany, with specialization in climate change impacts on crop productivity, modeling of climate change phenomena, and atmospheric sciences. His work is, largely attached to data acquisition and data handling with atmosphericmodels. Also he has computer skills dealing with windows, Linux, FORTRANLANGUAGE, GRADS, NCL and a lot of software that serve the science ofmeteorology. He has used High Performance Computing (HPC) facilities in running the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model with very high resolutions. His research is concentrated on climate and climate change and its impacts on different sectors, mainly Agriculture and Water Resources in addition to Environment, to construct adaptation strategies. He is very interested to study the extreme weather events like drought, heat waves, flash flood, desertification, etc…. and its frequency under climate change conditions. He is using meteorological sciences in many applications such as its relation and impactsto the health sector especially the Allergy and Asthma. In the same time, he is using the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model indifferent applications to compare its output with reality. He has ported WRF to a Windows platform and its optimization on 24cores, at Data to Insight Center of Pervasive Technology Institute at Indiana University Bloomington USA. He has participated in developing an Early Warning System for Flash Flood over Sinai atEgypt in collaboration with Belgian-Egyptian team. In addition to participation in several local, regional and international research projects. Dr. El Afandi believes that renewable energy is very promising sector as a main source for cleanenergy , so he is working to establish short to medium range solar radiation and windenergy forecasting system based on Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) i.e. WRF model. Dr. El Afandi has published many research papers in different peer-reviewed journals, also book chapters. He taught many courses in meteorology for undergraduate and graduate students’ inaddition to supervision of many M.Sc. and Ph.D. students at the Egyptian Universities and Tuskegee University, Alabama USA.
