Biography

Dr. P. Kumarasamy is a Professor and Head, Bioinformatics Centre & ARIS Cell, Madras Veterinary College, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India and associated with several external funded research projects in the area of Bioinformatics, Agriculture Information System and Establishment of Genomic Laboratory for Fecundity Genes. He is well known for his pioneering work in the field of Bioinformatics, Cytogenetics, Molecular biology and Animal Genetics over a period of 20 years. He is graduated (B.V.Sc.) from Madras Veterinary College, Chennai during 1989, M.V.Sc. in 1992 (Animal Genetics and Breeding) and Ph.D in 2001 securing first class in all degree programs. He pursued his post doctoral fellowship in Buffalo Genomics at Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, Hyderabad through the prestigious DBT Post doctorial Fellowship, Government of India. He started his professional carrier as Assistant Professor, then Associate Professor and Professor in Department of Animal Biotechnology, Animal Genetics and Breeding, TANUVAS, Chennai. He established Regional Core Laboratory funded by National Bureau of Animal Genetics Resources, Karnal for Molecular characterization of South Indian Breeds of livestock., the Andrological laboratory for Certified Semen and screening of breeding bulls of Tamil Nadu and he is responsible for establishment of Post Graduate Research Institute in Animal Sciences (PGRIAS) and offering Ph.D. and M.V.Sc. courses in this institute during his tenure. He guided several Ph.D. and M.V.Sc. students in Animal Genetics, Human Genetics and other related fields. At present he is guiding 15 Ph.D. students as a Member of doctoral Committee and 16 M.V.Sc. students as a Member, Advisory Committee in various topics. He evaluated more than 90 thesis and dissertations of Ph.D. and M.V.Sc. and M.Sc. courses in several universities. He is Life member of 17 Professional Organizations and Vice-President for Society for Conservation of Domestic Animal Biodiversity, National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources, Karnal, INDIA He published 38 Research Articles in National journals, 8 in International Journals and 78 Scientific Abstract, 66 full length papers presented in National and International conferences. He also published 20 Popular articles and Authored 14 books/manuals/compendium in his credit. He attended 10 International Conferences and 64 National conferences/Symposium. He conducted 32 Conference/Symposium/ Training /Workshop during his tenure. He awarded with TANUVAS merit scholarship 1990-92, ICAR - Senior Research Fellowship 1993-94, CSIR - Senior Research Fellowship 1995-96 for postgraduate and doctoral research program and DBT-Postdoctoral Fellowship in Biotechnology and Life Sciences during 2002-03. He attended an International Training on Marker Assisted Selection at Department of Animal Sciences, Washington State University, Pullman, USA for 3 months awarded by Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi.
