Dr. Luis Lopez-Ibor was born in Madrid in 1955. He attended medical school at the Complutense University of Madrid and underwent six years of postgraduate training at Pitie-Saltpetriere University Hospitals in Paris, France, under the tutelage of Prof. Jean Metzger. He worked with Prof. Pierre Lasjaunias at Hospital Bicetre during the next five years, before returning to Spain to become the youngest Department Chair in Radiology at the Santiago de Compostela Hospital and leading the country’s first MRI unit. In 1990 he returned to Madrid to found and direct the MRI units in Hospital Virgen de la Paloma and Hospital de la Zarzuela, while performing as a high-level consultant interventional neuroradiologist in several hospitals throughout Spain. He has since began working with and training professionals in the field of interventional neuroradiology in many countries in Latin America, including Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela, Brazil, and Mexico. In recent years his practice is centered in the Hospital Clinico San Carlos in Madrid, where he leads the Neurointerventional Radiology unit.
