Professor Mehmet Akif Buyukbese got his MD and Internal medicine residency degrees from Istanbul University where he started focusing on diabetes. He is a Professor at Internal Medicine department at KSU School of Medicine in Kahramanmaras (TURKEY) & served as a head for 6 years. He has Board certified in Internal Medicine (2002). He worked as a postdoctoral research fellow: University of Leicester, Clinical Diabetes Research Centre, UK (2003); Kronos Longevity Research Institute, Phoenix, Arizona, USA (2008-2009). He holds an ECFMG certificate (Los Angeles, 2008). He was appointed as full professorship (Turkey, 2011). He gave Diabetes lectures in Goettingen University Germany through ERASMUS Programme (2012). He is a Member of International Diabetes Foundation (IDF), (DESG), International Diabetes & Ramadan Study Group, Board of Trustees of Turkish Diabetes Foundation (TDV), European Society of Cardiology (ESC), Who’s WHO in Medicine (since 2006), Turkish Society of Metabolic Syndrome, Internal Medicine Society of Turkey (TIHUD), Turkish Society of Cardiology (TKD), Turkish Association of Medicine (TTB). He joined in Dunyagoz Hospitals Group and appointed as Medical Director at Dunya Diabetes Centers (2014).
He has more than 200 publications both in Turkish and English in Internal Medicine area mostly in diabetes. He served in the Editorial board & reviewers of Journal of Clinical Medicine and Research, Science Alert, European Journal of General Medicine, Balkan Medical Journal (SCI-Exp), Diabetes Forum (Turkish), Diabetes Science and Endocrinology (Turkish), Glance at Diabetes (Turkish), Turkey Clinics Medical Science, Turkey Clinics Endocrinology, Dialogue in Endocrinology (Turkish). He is serving as a speaker of diabetes & hypertension for pharmaceutical companies: Novartis, Abbott, Lilly, Adilna-Sanovel, Abdi Ibrahim & Sanofi-Aventis (Turkey); Grants from Novartis, Lilly, Novo-Nordisk & Sanofi-Aventis for diabetes phase 3 & phase 4 international collaborative studies (Turkey).
