Dr. Diel is an Assistant Professor of Virology at the Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences at South Dakota State University (SDSU). He received his DVM, M.S and Ph.D degrees from the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM), Brazil and did postdoctoral training at the USDA Southeast Poultry Research Laboratory in Athens, GA and at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Urbana, IL. He has been studying basic and molecular aspects of virus host-interactions since 2005 and he has published in numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters in the field of virology.
Currently, he is working at the SDSU Animal Disease, Research and Diagnostic Laboratory (ADRDL) where he conducts diagnostic virology and has established a research program on molecular mechanisms underlying virus-host interactions.
