Prof. Alaa Ahmed currently heads the Research Unit at the Faculty of Public Health & Tropical Medicine, and Direct the Medical Research Center Laboratories at Jazan University. He also is the CEO.CSO of immunodiagnostic Laboratories in Tempe, AZ. Prof. Ahmed is an active member of the Arizona Bioindustry group and serves as a scientific board member for several life-science and diagnostic companies.in Europe and the US. He developed, validated, and introduced more than 900 new diagnostic tests into the diagnostic industry. Prof Ahmed holds a Master's degree in Clinical chemistry (Surrey, UK, 1985) and a Ph.D. degree in Immunopathology (Glasgow University, 1989 where he discovered and characterized Vitronectin. He has supervised, collaborated, and founded numerous studies, with more than 93 publications in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters. Prof. Ahmed is also an active member of several national and international disease study groups. Throughout his carrier, Prof. Ahmed, supervised and trained numerous international students and colleagues. He serves also on the editorial boards of several prestigious journals.
Prof. Ahmed's research interest is focused on the pathophysiological mechanisms of immune diseases, including molecular, cellular, and inflammatory responses of chronic diseases. Areas currently under investigation include autoimmunity, autoantibodies, cancer biology, inflammation, and viral immunity.
