Dr. Chiaretti acquired deep theoretical knowledge about Physiology and Intestinal Pathophysiology. He studied in depth the intestinal immune system in critical patients, neoplastic patients, and inflammatory bowel diseases. As long as inflammatory intestinal diseases are concerned, he gave his important contribution to clinical and pathophysiological factors at the base of the surgical strategy to adopt, the factors that can influence the improvement of the immune response, and his contribution in the search and application of the most effective parameters to examine the evolution of the disease and reduce the risks of complications. He dealt much with the Clinical Nutrition of the neoplastic patient, and the building of an appropriate care protocol with Postoperative Early Enteral Nutrition in the critical patient. He studied the care technique of the critical patient and the intensive postoperative care, complicated by Total Parenteral Nutrition, Enteral Nutrition, and from 1996 Postoperative Early Enteral Nutrition, also developing care protocols which are today in use. The theme treated is always coherent with and relative to General Surgery and the application of Clinical Nutrition in a critical surgical context: - Surgical Technique and Methodology; Advanced and Innovative Technologies in Artificial Nutrition; - Surgical Critical Patient Care; Application of Computer Science to Surgery; Laparoscopic and Bariatric Surgery Technique and Methodology; Application of Day Surgery to a major University Hospital; Application of Computer Science and Telecommunication to academic teaching, and diabetic foot lesions advanced treatment with PRP.
