Biography

Born in 1966 in the current province of Sancti Spíritus, Cuba. Graduated with a degree in Education, specializing in Biology, from the Instituto Superior Pedagógico "Félix Varela", 1989. Professor and Researcher at the Central University "Marta Abreu" of Las Villas. Master of Science (MSc) in Medical Entomology and Vector Control, by the Institute of Tropical Medicine "Pedro Kourí" (IPK), the year 2000, and Doctor in Health Science (Dr.C.) by the IPK, the year 2013. He currently works at the University of Medical Sciences of Villa Clara (UCM-VC), Cuba, specifically in the Faculty of Health Technology and Nursing (FTSE), where he teaches as a professor of Hygiene and Epidemiology. Vice-president of the Territorial Tribunal (Sancti Spiritus and Villa Clara) for the research categories: Aspiring Researcher and Associate Researcher. President of the Territorial Tribunal (Cienfuegos, Sancti Spiritus, and Villa Clara) for the main teaching categories (Assistant Professor and Full Professor) of the University of Medical Sciences of Villa Clara. Member of the Tribunal of the University of Medical Sciences of Villa Clara (UCM-VC) for the ratification of senior teaching categories (Assistant and Full Professor). President of the Villaclareña Section of Entomoepidemiology and Related Sciences (SVECA). Vice-president of the Society of Disaster Reduction and Mitigation of Villa Clara. Member of the Society of Microbiology and Parasitology of Cuba, Cuban Society of Zoology, Cuban Society of Educators in Health Sciences, Villa Clara chapter, as well as of the Provincial Scientific Council of Health of Villa Clara. He has to his credit, more than 290 scientific results, of which, he is the author of more than 200 scientific articles in specialized magazines of recognized prestige and impact, both in Cuba and abroad, as well as 16 books, among many others. Member of the Editorial Committee of the scientific journals "The Biologist (Lima)", "Neotropical Helminthology (aphia)", Biotempo, Paideia XXI, "International Journal of Zoology and Animal Biology (IZAB)", as well as Associate Editor of the Board "Gulf Journal of Clinical Medicine and Medical Research" (GJCMMR). Reviewer/Referee for more than ten journals, both national and international. Recipient of the National Award of the Academy of Sciences of Cuba (ACC) in 2019. He has taught at the Central University "Marta Abreu" of Las Villas, Institute of Tropical Medicine "Pedro Kourí" (IPK), University of Medical Sciences of Villa Clara, and the Universities of Medical Sciences of the provinces of Cienfuegos, Sancti Spíritus, and Ciego de Avila.


Research Interest

The mosquito entomofauna and its implication in human and animal health; Biological control of mosquito larval populations with the use of different control alternatives (river larvivorous fish and copepods); Mathematical modeling based on culicids, river and terrestrial malacofauna, COVID-19, and other infectious entities with the incidence in human and veterinary health.
