Dr. Petronilla Battista is an Associate Specialist and Atlantic Fellow for Equity in Brain Health at the University of California San Francisco, US. She obtained a Bachelor of Science in Speech & Language Therapy at the University of Bari, Italy, and a Master of Science in Cognitive Neuroscience at San Raffaele University in Milan, Italy. She earned a Ph.D. in Cognitive Neuroscience at IUSS Pavia, Italy. She is a Member of the Global Brain Health Institute (GBHI) UCSF-Trinity College Dublin, SINdem, Associazione Autonoma aderente alla SIN per le demenze, and a Member of Society for the Neurobiology of Language (SNL).
Dr. Petronilla Battista is interested in fields of research that are Primary Progressive Aphasia (PPA) and post-stroke aphasia. In particular, development of new speech and language tools to assess PPA patients, language assessment and rehabilitation with a cognitive neuropsychological and linguistic approach, coadjuvant rehabilitation techniques, in particular, TMS, tDCS, neural correlates of language practice and change adults, and in aging neurocognitive, neurofunctional, neurophysiological, and neuroanatomical predictors of response to language treatment and natural recovery of language after brain lesion (e.g., neurodegenerative diseases, stroke, brain tumors).
