Biography

Dr. Melania Ioana Crisan is an Assistant Professor of Anatomy, School of Veterinary Medicine, Ross University, St Kitts and Nevis. Dr. Melania I. Crișan is a veterinary anatomist and an equine practitioner, specialized in equine lameness, sports medicine, and functional anatomy. Areas of interest in research include anatomy, equine locomotor apparatus, diagnostic imaging, and regenerative medicine. She obtained her veterinary degree from the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Cluj-Napoca in Romania (2008). Upon graduation, she earned a Master’s Degree in Medical Veterinary Clinic and Radiology from University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Cluj-Napoca in Romania (2010) and a co-jointly Ph.D. Degree in “Ultrasonographic and Anatomopathological Study of Deep Digital Flexor Tendon Apparatus in the Equine Foot” from University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Cluj-Napoca, Romania and University of Caen-Basse Normandie, France (2013). In 2013, Dr. Crișan completed a specialty internship in equine lameness and diagnostic imaging at CIRALE-HIPPOLIA, France. In 2014-2015, Dr. Crișan completed a post-doctoral research fellowship at the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Cluj-Napoca in Romania in the evaluation of the molecular techniques in equine embryo sexing. She has more than 5-year experience as an Assistant Professor of Veterinary Anatomy at the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Cluj-Napoca in Romania (October 2013-July 2016), St George’s University, Grenada, West Indies (August 2016-June 2018) and she joined RUSVM on October 2019. In July 2019 she completed a one-year internship in Equine Integrative Sports Medicine at UC DAVIS, California, USA. During this program, she was also involved in research and teaching activities, including anatomy labs. In October 2019 Dr. Crisan joined the Anatomy team at RUSVM as an Assistant Professor. Dr. Crisan is a resourceful, dynamic person-oriented towards problem-solving, who welcomes challenges and opportunities to learn. She is also an outdoor person, who enjoys discovering new places and new people. Her hobbies are dancing, reading, riding and traveling and spending time with animals.
