Gianfranco Romanazzi is a Professor of Plant Pathology and Plant Disease Management at the Marche Polytechnic University, Ancona, central-eastern Italy. He completed his first degree in Agricultural Sciences at the University of Bari, where he continued to complete his Ph.D in Crop Protection in 1999. Then he moved to Marche Polytechnic University as Post-Doc and later he worked as Assistant Professor. In 2004-2005, part of his research was carried at the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) in Parlier, California, in the framework of an Italian National Research Council (CNR) Fellowship. His scientific activities have been carried out through European Union (FP7 framework) and Italian national (PRIN, Cariverona Foundation) and regional (from Apulia, Tuscany, Marche) research projects, where he has acted as a Coordinator or as the Leader of a Research Unit. He has been a member of the COST action on phytoplasma (FA0807) and he is currently involved in the COST actions on endophytes (FA1103) and grapevine trunk diseases (FA1303). He is part of the Management Committee of the Phytoplasma Working Group of the Italian Phytopathological Society and he is a member of the Scientific Committee of the Italian Platform for Organic Agriculture and of the Monilinia.org network. During 2014-17 he serves as a member of Board of Italian Phytopathological Society (SIPaV) and Italian Association for Plant Protection (AIPP). He has been on the organising committees of several national (Italian) and international meetings, during some of which he has also served as Chairman. He has reviewed scientific projects for: the University of Milan, Italy; Italian Ministry of University and Research; the Comision Nacional de Investigacion Cientifica y Tecnologica (CONYCYT), Chile; the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (TWAS), Trieste, Italy; the Georgia National Science Foundation, Georgia; the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation, Georgia; the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports of the Republic of Croatia, Croatia; the University of California; and the US-Israel Agricultural Research & Development Fund (BARD). He has been a Reviewer for more than 40 international scientific journals, Editor for the Postharvest Biology and Technology journal, and the Journal of Integrated -OMICS, and he is Senior Editor for the Australasian Plant Pathology journal. He is a member of the Italian Phytopathological Society (SIPaV), the Italian Horticultural Society (SOI), the Italian Society for Plant Protection (AIPP), the Mediterranean Phytopathological Union (MPU), the International Council for the Study of Virus and Virus-like Diseases of the Grapevine (ICVG), the International Council on Grapevine Trunk Diseases (ICGTD), the International Society for Horticultural Science (ISHS), the International Society for Molecular Plant-Microbe Interactions (IS-MPMI), and the American Phytopathological Society (APS). He is an author of more than 230 papers published in national and international journals and proceedings of congresses.
