Biography

Dr. Rafael R. Castillo is a professor in Cardiovascular Medicine, College of Medicine, Adventist University of the Philippines; a senior consultant in Adult Cardiology, Manila Doctors’ Hospital; dean emeritus, and head of Cardio-Metabolic Research Unit (CaMeRU), FAME Leaders Academy. He is a Fellow of the Philippine College of Physicians, Philippine College of Cardiology, and European Society of Cardiology. He is an elected Trustee/Council Member of the International Society of Hypertension (ISH); and a member of the Science Advisory Board of the American Heart Association-Public Health Foundation of India Certificate eCourse in Management of Hypertension Program. He is the editor-in-chief, H&L (Health & Lifestyle) magazine; past editor-in-chief of the Philippine Journal of Cardiology and Philippine Journal of International Medicine. He is a past president of the Philippine Heart Association / Philippine College of Cardiology (PHA/PCC), Philippine Society of Hypertension, and Asian Pacific Society of Hypertension. Since 2000, he also writes a weekly commentary on varied health topics for the Philippine Daily Inquirer, the leading daily newspaper in the Philippines with a regular readership of 2-3 million. He is a recipient of 45 awards and plaques/medals of recognition for leadership, academic/professional excellence, research excellence, community service, including the Lifetime Achievement in Cardiology award given by the PHA/PCC.

Dr. Rafael R. Castillo research interests are Clinical Hypertension, Acute and Chronic Heart Failure, Stable Coronary Artery Disease, Lifestyle interventions, Drug and Nondrug interventions for Cardiovascular Diseases.
