Prof. Maryam Aminu is a UNESCO-L’ORÉAL Fellow (2004) and a Senior Fulbright Scholar (2014/2015) born in Nigeria. She obtained her B.Sc. degree in Microbiology in the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Science, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Nigeria. She had her M.Sc. and PhD degrees in in the same institution working with Polioviruses and Rotaviruses in 2000 and 2006 respectively. She also has a Post Graduate Diploma in Education obtained in 2002 from Federal College of Education, Zaria. She has since 1996 till present taught mainly Virology and Immunology at undergraduate and postgraduate level in the same Department she obtained her degrees from. She is a member of the African Rotavirus Network (2004-Date) and the Nigerian National Verification Committee on Elimination of Measles (March 2018- To Date). She is the present Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences, ABU, Zaria.
Prof. Aminu is involved in immunization surveys and characterization of viruses. Her research focuses on gastrointestinal viruses with special interest on rotaviruses. She also conducts research on Hepatitis viruses, Human papillomaviruses and Human Immunodeficiency virus.
