Dr. Ahmed obtained more than 15 years of professional experience of serving academia, public sector research and development organizations, regulatory affairs and biotechnology industry. Dr. Ahmed obtained postdoctoral training from USA under Fulbright program, completed PhD and Master’s Degree in Microbiology and Bachelor in Veterinary medicine (DVM). He published quality research articles on Avian Influenza Viruses (AIVs), NewCastle Disease Virus (NDV) and Infectious Bursal Disease Virus (IBDV) in prestigious Scientific Journals including “Vaccine”, “Journal of Clinical Microbiology (JCM)”, “Virus Genes” and “Avian Diseases”. Currently Dr. Ahmed is working as an Associate Professor, Department of Biosciences, Barrett Hodgson University (BHU). Previously Dr. Ahmed served as an Assistant Professor with a leading research group on zoonotic viral pathogens (influenza, Corona (MERS)) at the Shantou University Medical College, PR China. Dr. Ahmed worked as a visiting scientist on avian influenza viruses at SEPRL, USDA, Athens, Georgia, USA. He successfully developed more immunogenic vaccines using different adjuvant formulations against H7N3 Avian Influenza viruses. He also worked on genomics and molecular characterization of H5N1 influenza viruses. Dr. Ahmed served as an Assistant Professor at Karakoram International University (KIU) designed research projects and supervised research scholars / staff, taught courses of virology, immunology, biosafety, risk assessment and management at graduate level. He got excellent presentation skills, networking ability and organized / participated at numerous conferences, workshops, and gave oral presentation as invited speaker on emerging viral pathogens. He is a recognized supervisor for higher education (MS/PhD) program. Dr. Ahmed served as a quarantine officer in public sector, dealt regulatory affairs and supervised staff to controlled trans boundary diseases and established new quarantine station and lab at Pak-China Dryport-Sost, Khunjrab. Dr. Ahmed developed his skills in serological and molecular diagnosis of Hepatitis B and C, HIV and CMV as well. He has obtained significant hands on experience development and quality assurance of vaccines using GLP and GMP and well versed with the regulatory requirements including 9CFR, USDA, OIE, FAO and WHO and he also obtained training on regulatory and safety requirements in developing “Veterinary Biologicals” from USDA, APHIS, USA. He obtained significant experience of project design, execution and management including planning, coordination, budgeting, staffing, monitoring and evaluation. He served as a veterinary officer / research officer in public sector institutions during his PhD. Dr. Ahmed worked with WHO to monitor immunization programs in Gilgit-Baltistan. Dr Ahmed also served as a consultant with UNDP in Northern Pakistan and conducted base line studies on Glacial Lakes Outburst Floods (GLOFs) and their impact on health, agriculture and economy of vulnerable populations. Dr. Ahmed also served as a consultant Microbiologist (voluntarily) at Saudi Red Crescent, and Italian Filed Hospitals and worked for rehabilitation of earth quake affected population during the Pakistan Earth-quake, 2005, that took lives of more than 100 thousand people and services of Dr. Ahmed were highly appreciated by national and international organization.
Dr. Nazir Ahmed Lone research interests are Molecular epidemiology, genomics, pathobiology and immunology of emerging infectious zoonotic viral diseases, Occupational health, Biosafety and Biosecurity, Risk Assessment and Management.
